MEPAP Part Two-The Modular Education for Activity Professionals

This independent study course can be taken in the comfort of your own home at your own pace. The course typically takes 4-6 months to complete although you have up to one year to finish. Refunds may be granted within 30 days of purchase minus a $50 processing fee. Please note that after 30 days, there will be no refunds.

What I will learn?

  • Modules One-Two: The role and function of the Activity Manager, covering the administrative aspects of the Activity Department including but not limited to leadership styles, time management, job descriptions, interviewing, management, and termination of employees and volunteers. This session also includes an in-depth presentation on the recruitment and retention of volunteers in student facilities.
  • Module Two-Three: A review of a variety of management techniques will be presented to enhance the activity professional’s management of staff and volunteers. This session covers ethical practices, values identification of activities delivery, quality assurance, and becoming an agent of change as well as team building.
  • Module Four: Leadership and advocacy issues are presented. Public relations programming, proposal, grant, budget, and policy & procedure writing, the exploration of effective marketing techniques, establishing an educational component for teaching others about the activity department and facility, and assistance with the NCCAP process and individual certification applications.

  • Creatives who have backgrounds in Music, Art, Movement, and other Holistic Therapies and would like to become an Activity Director.
  • Other Health Care Professionals such as Social Workers, Home Care, and Nursing who want to change careers or augment their education for Life Enrichment management positions.

Requirements

  • You must have online access via the internet on a laptop or personal computer, utilize a Chrome browser, and a Gmail account.
  • Each student will need to select a Practicum Supervisor and can complete the practicum at a nursing home, assisted living, adult daycare, or senior center. A student who already works along the continuum of long-term care can conduct their practicum at their workplace. If the student is not currently working at a facility, they will need to find a volunteer placement and a Practicum Supervisor in order to complete the assignments. 
  • This course contains homework assignments, projects, presentations, midterm, and a final exam. The course will be augmented by online weekly coaching sessions to keep the student on track. The Student must complete all modules and complete the 90-hour practicum to receive a certificate of completion to be used toward certification under the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals.
